Blue Song music video vs Opening Sequence of Baby Driver
In class we watched the music video to the song Blue Song by Mint Royale, featuring Noel Fielding, Nick Frost, Julian Barratt and Michael Smiley.
I was interested to see if there was much in terms of narrative structure and character development in such a short duration, and used this in comparison with Edgar Wright's Baby Driver (a film in which drew inspiration from the music video). In terms of narrative development, it seems to somewhat follow the 3-part conventional structure; as it starts off with some simple dialogue as the men get out of the car, reaches a climax when the actor Noel Fielding thinks he's been caught out in the car park, and an ending as the men get back into the car and the illusion that they have driven off. The small interactions of dialogue between the driver and the men is somewhat comical and shows some depth of character in terms of seeing the relationships between them. However, it is arguable that the short duration of the film is limiting in terms of character development as we fail to see any change of emotion throughout, and merely notice his impulsive behaviours.
